corps minéral

by le désert mauve

Inspired by geology, science fiction, and documentary archives, corps minéral is an immersive film that integrates a narrative co-written by the artists Gabrielle HB and Charline Dally. This one connects the space of our lives and our sensible experiences with geological phenomena of immeasurable temporality. The layers of memory, whether they are contained in the rock or in our cells, are part of a cycle from sedimentation to disintegration. The work invites us to apprehend these processes with attention and empathy in order to consider their slowness as a means to heal even the deepest fractures.

Charline Dally has a background in visual arts and graphic design, and through her practice offers up reflections on the perception of reality—especially as this relates to boundaries between body and environment, human and non-human, and self and otherness. She performed at MUTEK in 2018, and her work has been presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Toronto); Eastern Bloc, perte de signal, Galerie de l'UQAM, Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme at Place des Arts (all in Montréal); Festival 12x12 (Paris); and Young International Art Fair (Brussels).

Gabrielle Harnois-Blouin is a sound artist from Montréal who uses her voice, synthesizers, field recordings and text scores to generate music. She improvises on stage, composes for contemporary musicians and dancers, and is currently completing a master’s degree in Sound Art at University of the Arts in London, England. Recently, she has played with Ensemble d’oscillateurs, presented her installation Documents:champs at Galerie Le Livart (Montréal), and completed a creative residency with collaborator Florence Garneau in Toluca, Mexico, for their project Jardín.
