POP-KULTUR FROM BERLIN PRESENTS
A PROJECTION NIGHT GATHERING 36 DIGITAL WORKS, CONCERTS, PERFORMANCES AND CONFERENCES


Pop-Kultur is an international festival organized by Musicboard Berlin, which will be presented this year in the digital realm for the first time and projected at the Espace SAT, Saturday, August 29 (limited seats to respect distancing measures, wearing a mask is mandatory).

The program presented at the SAT will be structured in three screenings, including : digital works, concerts, performances and conferences.

Pop-Kultur Part I

The first part welcomes few old acquaintances who are bringing along some brand new material to share with you. Noga ErezHendrik Otremba, the RambaZamba Theater house band 21 Downbeat, Hamburg experimental musician Preach and Yeşim Duman have already participated in previous editions of the festival. They can be seen along with The Notwist, who will present a song from their upcoming album, as well as Wanlov the Kubolor of the Ghanaian duo FOKN Bois, who are in the spotlight of the documentary Contradict. Ideas for a New World, which can also be viewed in the Pop-Kultur programme. They will be joined by Yugen BlakrokCATNAPP with her Commissioned Work, the duo MADANII & LLUCID and a talk about the crisis that art and music are facing in the age of Corona.

Pop-Kultur Part II

In the second part of the Pop-Kultur show, Canadian musician Jessy Lanza will play her favorite chord progressions, while Tellavision from Berlin and Echo from Tel Aviv will present the results of their digital, transcontinental residency. But of course that’s not all. Chikiss will breathe new musical life into avant-garde silent and horror films, hackedepicciotto will get remixed live by the Gebrüder Teichmann, and Rafael-Evitan Grombelka will interpret Erregung Öffentlicher Erregung’s song "Kein Bock auf Frühstück" in German sign language. Besides those three commissioned works, Pamela Owusu-Brenyah will host a talk on DIY principles in African music festivals, while TheodoraMavi PhoenixEden DersoSADO OPERAThe Düsseldorf Düsterboys and 24/7 Diva Heaven will be present with mostly music-related contributions.

Pop-Kultur Part III

In the third part of the Pop-Kultur show, Isolation Berlin will present music from their forthcoming album, and King Khan his Commissioned Work "Rat-Tribution Now". Like Khan, Cartel Madras are from Canada and have created one of the internationally produced digital works, as have the all-round artists Evija VēbereJOJO ABOT and the post-punk duo Super Besse, split between Minsk and Berlin. Besides a special performance by the Berlin queer punk band Eat Lipstick, a videozine by the duo Mueran Humanos and an ambivalent love letter to Berlin by actor Ace Mahbaz recited in German sign language, Mpho Sebina & S.Fidelity will present the results of their Goethe Residency, while Ted Gaier’s Commissioned Work is a talk with author Claudia Basrawi about the topics in his essay collection "Argumentepanzer".
