Optimo (Espacio) is back at the SAT for an underground and eclectic club night. Three artists from Montréal’s electronic scene will be opening to heat up the dancefloor: Rig Thrall b2b CPR Annie and DJ Pat De Bratte.
Optimo (Espacio), the legendary duo formed by JD Twitch & JG Wilkes, has had a profound influence on the evolution of the electronic scene both in their alma mater, Glasgow, and internationally—whether through their explosive multi-genre approach or their generosity and interactions with clubbers and promoters. If we are currently in an era of glory for electronic music, it is in large part thanks to the influence of artists like them.
Sadly, JD Twitch passed away this year after a battle with illness, and we wish to take this opportunity to celebrate his memory and the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. JG Wilkes continues to proudly carry the name of the duo, and for that we are deeply grateful.
From Lithuania to Brazil, Japan to Germany, Optimo (Espacio) has played pretty much everywhere. Just as much at home on the main stage at Dekmantal as a tiny basement sweat box in Glasgow, he is a DJ whose exceptional skills can elevate any party to another level, can transport any audience and deliver unforgettable clubbing experiences. The duo were responsible for the Glasgow nightclub Optimo (Espacio) which ran from November 1997 until April 2010. Optimo sat at the very epicentre of the Scottish Clubbing consciousness in its weekly residency in the Sub Club and is widely regarded as one of the most important and ground-breaking clubs of the past two decades.
With over a decade in the electronic music scene, Montreal-based DJ and producer, Rig Thrall is known for his bold, eclectic style, merging refined techno, new beat, tribal rhythms, and breaks into immersive, narrative-driven sets. He’s the co-founder of label Rakya and a core member of Montreal collectives Die Well and Field Test. His production work spans respected labels including La Rama, Kizi Garden, Sun Generation, and Secret Knowledge, with his latest EP Lost Dialogs.
CPR Annie is dedicated to giving the dancefloor the kiss of life it deserves. Unbound by specific genres and eras, she curates mixes that are free of formulaic thinking. On describing her sound, CPR Annie prefers to let the Machines talk and asserts that she has nothing more to say through the art of the Written Word.
DJ/selector Pat De Bratte (Patrick Baillargeon) is a cornerstone of the Montreal music scene. A journalist, producer, drummer/vocalist (Pat Panik), record dealer and devoted vinyl collector, he has electrified venues such as Foufounes, SAT, Escogriffe, and Cheval Blanc (where he is a resident), while taking his sets to Toronto, New York, Paris, Lille, Liège, Mulhouse and major festivals including Dour, Eurockéennes, FrancoFolies, MEG, FME, Distorsion. Renowned for his unpredictable and eclectic style, he effortlessly navigates from dub to punk, cumbia to electro, funk to soul, blending past and present music with infectious energy.
