MATTHEW
DEAR

Amidst the
maelstrom of aliases adopted by Detroit’s prodigious and prolific
Matthew Dear, Audion is undoubtedly the
grittiest. Matthew’s most recent excursions (Audion, False, Jabberjaw)
have found him at the doorsteps of the minimal-but-funky regime of techno
music. Inspired by pioneers like, Mike Inc., Thomas Brinkmann, and Ricardo
Villalobos. Dear has ingested, manipulated and re-introduced his version
of this always changing and innovative realm of sound creation threw his
stunning live performances and evolved DJ sets. Recent acceptance into the
legendary Plus 8 roster and ever-popular Berlin based, Perlon label has
solidified Dear as a viable source for pushing the boundaries of modern
dance music while at the same time remaining focused on the simple goal
of making people dance!

PHEEK

JP became interested in acid house in the late ’80s and raves in early
’90s, inspiring him to DJ his own radio shows in Sherbrooke, Québec.
From his college years to university, he played techno, house and anything
exciting to people whose ears weren’t as close to the ground.

Upon moving
to Montreal in 1997 to study computer science, JP met Mateo Murphy and found
they shared similar musical interests. After performing a show with Gez
Varley, Mateo and JP decided to work on a live concept of their own, based
on improvising beats on the fly and mixing in other synthesized sonic textures.

It was at this
point that JP adopted the name of Pheek after a Richie Hawtin/Plastikman
performance at Medialounge, a show that would forever change his perspective
on music.

After further
honing their live show together, Pheek and Mateo opened for Chain Reaction
at the FCMM in 1999. They were spotted by Hautec and offered to release
a 12″, marking a turning point in their fledgling careers.

The few years
that followed saw proposed releases on Hybrid Structure and collaborations
with Mitchell Akiyama on various projects – a creative period that
proved a catalyst for JP’s later success.

The next pivotal
point in Pheek’s career was meeting Éloi Brunelle and subsequently
being invited to join to the Epsilonlab media collective. JP played with
them since the very first night of their existence and for almost every
show to follow. His first release for Epsilonlab, 2002’s Paysages
Matriciels, was a critical success and was nominated for Quebec’s
prestigious ADISQ music awards.

Another milestone
was the label Minus who noticed Pheek’s demo and Richie Hawtin who started
playing his music along with Magda. That kind of feedback from major DJ
made him move forward in his production. Then he got in contact with labels
such as Contexterrior and Telegraph with who he released some material.

JON
SCHMIDT

Southern transplant part time wino, full time record junkie with a penchant
for intelligent minimal, sparse techno, and stripped down grooves, JON
has held residency with the ROBOT LOVE SONGS group at their Future/Retro
parties and now their Klik nights in Boston,USA. He is now ready to export
his talent north of the border to join DISKHO and become a full blown
resident of their STATIK nights.

DISKHO
is the creation of two guys, Jeff and Alex, a crazy idea that all came
together out of the blue. The goal was to unite all our friends and to
try and form a collective of artists, designers and promoters who all
share the same passion, MUSIC !!

Not completely
satisfied with the electronic scene in Montreal these past years, we decided
to try and bring something new. Nights that would be all about the music
and the people who love it. We also thought that it would be inappropriate
to create a one off logo for ourselves, the reason being that music is
ever-changing and always going in new directions so we decided to stick
to a name and evolve our image, just like music. With theses ideas in
mind we began to form our mission: create unique nights that will showcase
cutting edge international as well as local artists that would not necessarily
have the chance to do so in an appropriate venue.

To allow
our mission to expand to its full potential we decided to explore by the
bias of 2 different nights, 2 distinct facets of electronic music. STATIK
for the stripped down grooves of minimal music and CLINIK for the dirty
gritty sounds of electro, acid and techno. These 2 styles representing
the sounds that we love and want to share with you.

DISKHO’s
drive is the music, so naturally we want our crowd to reflect it, we have
parties for people to dance and have fun, not for them to show-off…..

MOOTS

MOOTS
got to visit Vienna’s eighties disco scene as a preteen. He can’t remember
one track he heard during that time, but does remember the mirrorball’s
magic travelling spots. Moving to Montreal specifically to explore la
belle ville’s audio-visual world, he recently managed to become MOMENT
FACTORY’s newest freelancer. With Diskho, he will bring live visuals down
to a science.
