Epsilonlab
is a Montreal-based audio-visual label dedicated to promotion of innovative
electronic music and digital art. Releases include CDs, DVDs and a constantly-evolving
repertoire of downloadable audio-visual files. Epsilonlab is particularly known
for integrating music with visuals during live performances and on DVD.
Founded in December
of 2000, Epsilonlab was initially a collective of musicians, VJs, designers
and contemporary dancers devoted to live audio-visual experiments in immersive
environments. The collective’s “Group Therapies” became something
of a legend in the Montreal scene and helped establish a vibrant community of
like-minded VJs and electronic music producers.
Eloi Brunelle
– Montréal
“Cool contours
and a warm heart” is how the French magazine TRAX describes his funky
tech-house. However, it’s his energetic live and dj performances and his
affinity for his audience that has brought Eloi Brunelle recognition in the
electronic music scene since 1998.
His reputation
in Montreal leaves nothing to be desired; he has played in all the important
festivals in the city, including the Meg, the Montreal jazz festival, Elektra
and Mutek. He maintains close relationships with nightlife venues such as Stereo
and cultural venues such as SAT (Société des arts technologiques).
The SAT that was forged by the legendary Epsilonlab parties held there. He is
in fact the director of the associated record label and netlabel witch have
a total of 27 releases.
The quality of
his music has often been recognized via numerous prestigious nominations: “Electronic
Music Artist of the Year” at the 2001 MIMIs (Montreal Independent Music
Industry awards), “Electronic Album of the Year” 2 years in a row,
for his albums “Elsonic Project” and “Live @ Neuchatel”
at the ADISQ awards, and again “Electronic Album of the Year” at
the Independent Canadian Music Awards in 2003.
Paul Keeley
– Vancouver
Paul Keeley began
writing his particular style of house music after living in Montreal, Quebec
for a year and a half, and being influenced by performances by Luomo and Akufen,
as well as the always-inspiring Mutek festival held there every spring. A lifelong
musician, Paul has also created music of varying styles under different aliases,
including electro-infused IDM (Silent Q), and chaotic textural atmospherics
(Gyges). Currently living in Vancouver, B.C., Paul continues to evolve his house
music style, combining dub-inspired synthesizers, deep percussion grooves, and
glitchy vocal snippets of various origins. Look for Paul’s upcoming 12″
release on the Irish-based Psychonavigation/Offshoot records, as well as his
web release on Panospria records under his Gyges moniker.
