Poxy
Montreal’s Poxy loves to play real rock’n’roll anywhere, anytime,
and any way they can. With influences that reach past, present and future, these
guys throw electronic and new wave punk into the mix. Creating a truly original
sound that fearlessly deviates from the norms of any one genre. Even if this
isn’t purist punk, the punk attitude is firmly rooted in everything that
these guys do. No fashion victims here. Much more time is spent crafting great
songs and melodies that will stand the test of time, and feed their long term
vision of sexy and smart attitude. Lead singer Xavier enjoyed some success with
Montreal garage punk band Cafeine, but after the group split due to creative
differences, he set out to create something new, recruiting close friends to
make up the core members of Poxy.
DJ Frigid
Since 1998, Frigid has been redefining the limits of DJing with an incredible
stage presence, a strong sense of fashion, and an extravagant and festive soundtrack.
He’s also one of the first local Disc-Jockey to have distinguished himself
with a new ‘electro-alternative’ sound, since 2000.
In the following years,
he was asked to participate at special events aside other well-known DJs and
international bands such as Miss Kittin, Tiga, Fischerspooner, Princess Superstar,
Larry Tee, Relaxed Muscle, DJ Unknown and Jay-Jay Johanson.
Recently acclaimed
“DJ of the year” by ICI magazine, the androgynous Frigid cultivates
ambiguity with a disarmingly outrageous approach. By giving new life to dance
music, the electronic era, and performance art, Frigid brings a unique dimension
to his work, inherited by the extravagance of the glam rock era.
Gentle
Bakemono
Gentle Bakemono is David Kristian’s electro-disco alter-ego. While DK’s other
music is often best-suited for the headphone or cinema set, the Gentle Bakemono
tracks are more of a homage to Dance music producers such as Giorgio Moroder,
and ’80s New Wave, Disco, and Hi-NRG. Gentle Bakemono’s sound is custom-tailored
for clubs with Megawatt PA systems and black sports cars during night drives.
DJ Chevyvan
Van Luong aka Chevyvan adores being unpredictable. He mixes musical genres that
usually don’t blend in that easily. An adventurous mind, he likes to let his
instinct and curiosity drive him to territories he’s never been to. For him,
electronic music is a vast laboratory where the possibilities to make combinations
are infinite.
DJ XL5
Marc Lamothe, organizer of the XL5 International Zappin’ Party 2005 at the Fantasia
festival.
thisisnotdesign
thisisnotdesign is an artistic collective which goal is to encourage young artists
in cultural networks and most precisely those emerging from the files of art
and new technology.
THe projects created by
the group are set to promote Quebec’s art video in the province and in the rest
of Canada, but also abroad, by submitting to international festivals and by
associations with artists and professionals all around the world.
VJ Pillow
Thien Vu Dang aka Pillow performs in Montreal’s electronic scene since spring
2001. His visual performances merrily mix elements of documentary, fiction and
experimental videos. His work is a constant quest to find new ways of communicating
through images and sound. He finds in video performances an ideal organic playground
for his experimentations.
VJ Mademoiselle
We can find the influences of the cinema of the New wave in the artistic approach
of Yasuko Tadokoro alias VJ Mademoiselle. Her stay in the prestigious museum
of contemporary art “Art Tower Mito” also contributed to form her
vision of art, which she transposes now into the visual experiments that her
imagination dictates to her. Supporting a certain idea of positivism, the video
performances of Mademoiselle are characterized by a feeling of freshness and
a sense lightness, the whole obviously carrying the print of the technological
development in digital art.
