Trajectoires interrompues et autres modèles de déséquilibre transitoire

This short film explores the sudden, involuntary changes in a projected trajectory. In turn, we see splinters of grids with scattered data points, graphic models entangled in the gears of colossal tendrils, and mathematical lacework whose meaning seems to change according to the light. A reflection on the fundamental uncertainty that accompanies both economic forecasts and individual projections. Duration: 3'56min

A film by Lydia Yakonowsky

Montreal-based visual artist Lydia Yakonowsky evolves at the frontier of digital art, immersive short film and performance. In her work, she reworks the visual elements of graphs and econometric models, the basis of her training, questioning the usefulness and reliability of modern economic models. The result is a vast statistical choreography in which dismantled grids, wandering parabolas and strings of data intermingle, all freed from their original function. www.lydiayakonowsky.ca

Mystic Vale

Mystic Vale is a forested ravine on Vancouver Island, where the artist grew up. For the past 8 years the artist used photogrammetry techniques to capture the forest environments as a way to document and archive the Douglas fir ecosystem. The photos are processed using triangulation to generate 3D models, which are then reconstructed into virtual environments for animation. The viewer is submerged into a mossy lush temperate rainforest. Original sound composition features field recordings of the forest designed by Arthur Desmarteaux. Duration: 3'55min

Tree of life

Tree of Life (2023) is an immersive full dome film that celebrates the interconnectedness of being and nature, intertwining the data from humans and nature to generate the visuals and soundscore. The tree imagery was programmed through scans and mathematical formulas, and the geometric structures and animation were generated by data from dance movement, volumetric capture of dancers, physiological data, and electrical brain activity. The music was created from the electrodermal activity of two people dancing. Importantly, this data demonstrated a moment of correlation or synchrony that occurred between the two people during the dance. In this sense, there are measurable moments where we connect or interconnect in life. The tree of life is a deeply symbolic image threaded through time and many cultures. For many, it is the symbol of the connection between all things. This work promotes the idea of connection as a profound aspect of being alive. Duration: 5min

Immortelle

Immortelle is an atmospheric and figurative work illustrating the flights and falls of psychological endurance. Originally an acclaimed audiovisual performance, it has since been adapted to virtual reality, projection mapping and fulldome. Inspired by the concept of mutability, fluidity and transformation, Immortelle is a visceral expression, an internal awakening, a progression, which evolves, in a thematic of reversals. Crossing, permutations, metamorphosis: making facing its environment, facing itself, facing that which remains. Duration: 9'30min

A film by Guillaume Bourrassa

His artistic universe is deeply rooted in the exploration of lines. To him, lines are much more than mere graphic elements; they embody time, its presence, its limits, and its fatality. He aligns, cuts, copies, curves, and erases lines with precise intention, sometimes using them aggressively, sometimes gently, and often to tell a unique story. The line acts as a tension, allowing him to rise to the surface and express what is buried, unfinished, or incomplete within him. www.instagram.com/guillaume_bourassa
