Video mapping, or projection mapping, or illusionist projection, allows physical surfaces to be augmented with projected visual content. This technique is used in particular for architectural projection installations, or for immersive spaces such as domes/planetariums. Video mapping techniques involve one or more video projectors which, when used together, will project visuals. In this workshop, we will use the free Splash software developed by Metalab, SAT’s research laboratory, and by the Lab148 cooperative, to explain and illustrate the principles of video-mapping, from the calibration of the projectors with the projection surface to the adaptation of the content on it.
Aimed at a beginner audience, the workshop will take place in 20-minute sessions during which we will go through all the steps to implement a miniature video-mapping installation, projected on a model of the Van Horne skatepark.
Registration deadline: September 22
About Splash: Splash is a free (as in GPL) modular mapping software.
In collaboration with the Lab148 cooperative.
Participants are invited to bring their creations or do some live coding with the TouchDesigner software to create visuals that will animate a designated space in the Skatepark.
Registered participants could whether prepare in advance or create on site and all video formats can be adapted on site with the help of the SAT team.
To take part in the workshop, participants should bring their laptop with Ethernet port and TouchDesigner installed and have basic knowledge of the software.
Registration deadline: September 22
About TouchDesigner: TouchDesigner is a visual programming software that aims to create interactive multimedia content in real time.
