From May
5 to May 8 – free
New legislation
is currently being tabled in the House of Commons, which will strengthen copyright
ownership at the cost of civil liberties. If this radical new law passes, copyright
owners will be able to obtain a client’s personal log files from Internet service
providers.
In order to address
the ongoing corporate enclosure of the cultural commons and to demonstrate a
variety of creative tactics and legal alternatives, a group of Canadian artists
will be launching a temporary media lab to coincide with MDCN’s “Sampling
the Spectrum” symposium which is taking place at SAT from May 5 to May
7.
Participants are
invited to make free copies from a library of media, made available under open
licenses, as well as to upload their own work.
