Whose Web is
it anyway?

CitizenShift
and Parole citoyenne, web initiatives
of the National Film Board of Canada, are pleased to invite you to an evening
exploring web democracy at the Society for Arts
and Technology (SAT) (SAT) on Wednesday, May 3rd, at 6:30 pm. The event
will feature screenings of short films, networking, and a panel about autonomous
media and its power to change society. This is your chance to meet Citizen Media
thinkers, designers and users, and discuss how media makers can harness the
web. This free event is presented in collaboration with Bande
à Part (Radio-Canada), CKUT,
and SAT

The Panel – an
Autonomous Media Jam Session – brings together players from the Citizen Media
movement. It gets under way at 7:30 pm and will be led by Sophie Le-Phat
Ho, director of Artivistic
and project officer for Terminus1525.

Invited panellists
include Marie-Chantale Turgeon,
new web technologies strategist and creator; Marcus Bornfreund, a member
of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Electronic
Frontier Canada, and the Free/Open
Source Research Community at MIT; he is leading the Canadian translation
of the popular Creative Commons licence;
Martin Lessard, a frequent
and popular lecturer on the emergence of new Internet communication technologies;
Omar Bickell,
a member of the Koumbit collective and
ardent champion of free software and its community applications; and Alexandre
Berthelot, aka “Gadget,” of Homeless
Nation, assists Montreal street people in making their own media.

François
Lemay, one of the hosts of Bande
à part, Radio-Canada’s show for music maniacs, will wrap up the discussion.
The Bande à part DJs will take over at 9:30 pm.
