A
city with a tumultuous past, Detroit appears to model itself after the
cult fiction movie Metropolis, and deserves the nickname Motor City.
Over the last 5 decades this city paradoxically gave rise to 2 of the
most significant musical genres: Soul (Motown) as well as very the avant-gardist
Techno and Electro of Derrick May and Juan Atkins.

To
honour history, DonMescal (Soul), Phranteek (Broken Beat, Techno Soul,
Electro, Ghettotech), Tomas_Smart (Minimal Hard Techno), and Ludaxpack
will team up with Vjs Moots and Katerine M. to recreate this historical
chain.

Motorcity
is an evening inspired by Afro-American roots where the music of the
soul will transport you through the deep emotions that Detroit paradoxically
experienced over the past 50 decades: Soul, Funk vs Electro_Tech-Soul-Funk!

Tomas_Smart

Born in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, and inspired
by the nightlife scene in Montreal, Tomas has been involved in music
for over 7 years. Having developed a passion for electronic music, more
particularly techno, he soon became a DJ and organized several events
in the Montreal area combining music with new audio-visual technology.
Now a sound engineer, Tomas wants to evolve musical production by incorporating
new technologies and creativity. Tomas wants to offer his best to music,
the arts, and more particularly by developing new tools and techniques
for optimal live audiovisual creations.

Phranteek ( Moto Music – www.313.be.tf )

Born in Montreal, Phranteek is back from a
Belgium tour where he performed in the company of DJ Shaman(313) , Kronic(Booty,be),
Chao-Xin( Data Records) and also with luminaries artists as Imatran
Voima and Radarsat-1 on various radio shows and in clubs and festivals
including: Le Gazon, Recyclart holidays, Boupsradio, 2 years Booty.be.

Since 2000, he has been perfecting his art in many
respected venues in Montreal as the C Station, Saphir Club, Pub du Quartier
Latin and the SAT (Société des Arts Technologiques).

A proud representative of Ghettobass (a savoury
mix of Electro, Chicago House and Miami Bass) he is known for his “Scratch
n’ Cut” technique which he fuse at an incredibly speed on 2 or
3 turntables.

Fully passionate about the roots of electronic music,
he sometime retraces the path that gave birth to his style by dropping
hidden treasures by legends from Miami, Chicago and Detroit.

Vj Moots

MOOTS got to visit Vienna’s eighties disco scene
as a preteen. He can’t remember one track he heard during that time,
but does remember the mirrorball’s magic travelling spots. Moving to
Montreal specifically to explore la belle ville’s audio-visual world,
he recently managed to become MOMENT FACTORY’s newest freelancer.

Don Mescal

A resident of Montreal for 3 years now, Don takes
pleasure in scouring the record shops and garage sales in hopes of finding
rare old pearls. Today, Don Mescal animates Leçon de Son, a weekly
show on www.choq.fm, UQAM’s student radio. The show’s aim is the discovery
and exploration of various musical styles. Thus, each emission includes
a history lesson on a specific musical movement. Don Mescal also has
had the occasion to share his eclectic style in Montreal with evenings
at Bacci, Missy Bar and Macao.

LudaxPack (dj)

Perdu entre Kuala Lumpur, Kansas city, Limoges
et Montréal, LudaxPack découvre les joies de l’écoute
musicale et du camouflage.

C’est alors qu’il s’arme de 2 platines, 1 mixer,
1 mini-disc et de nombreuses scupltures circulaires pour enfin combattre
l’écoute facile.
