The School Of Media and Visual Arts at the University
of Quebec in Montreal in cooperation with the School of Image Arts at
Ryerson University and a number of institutions, artist-run centres
and arts administrators in Toronto and Montreal, is hosting a conference:
Toronto/Montreal : The proliferation of screens. This interdisciplinary
conference, in it’s second edition, will take place from February
9-11, 2006. It has the overall aim of presenting new work in a variety
of forms to the Toronto and Montreal arts communities, encouraging interaction
between academic and artist-run organizations in both provinces.

DJ GUAPO

DJ GUAPO’s sound caresses the audience like
a tropical breeze, a soothing whisper of sensuality that makes all the
chicas y chicos feel Muy Guapo. His exotic blend of Latin – Brazilian
– Tribal House and Dancehall Reggae has been rocking dancefloors since
1997. DJ Guapo has performed in England, Mexico City, Quebec, Toronto
and Montreal.

Mr. Knobs

He completed a degree in cultural anthropology and
in electroacoustique music. He composed music and created sound designs
for different fields like contemporary dance, theatre, animation, video,
fashion, video games, cellphones, fiction short play and also documentary
film. Actually he work as a freelance for the NFB, the SAT, the Université
de Montréal and Wave Generation.

Vj Liberty

From her beginnings in the VJing scene at the SAT
in 2001 with the band Wetfish, VJ Liberty (aka Ladyroll) manipulating
images in real time quickly became her passion; she has now performed
at many events, both in Quebec and throughout the world.

Some of the major events in which she has participated
are PixelAche with Swedish musician Andreas Tilliander; Péchés
capitaux/7 during the FCMM; Nuit ÉlectroniK for Mutek, the Turandot
technopera in collaboration with the SAT and the Opéra de Montréal,
Nouvelles Images in Mexico, NexArt during the Florida film festival
in Orlando; Art Future in Barcelona and Viva Chizé, the biennial
of contemporary arts in France.

She has the unique ability to adapt to all styles
of music. She organizes her work along a theme and then embroiders on
all aspects of the theme using many of her own image sources as well
as various borrowed ones, She also creates animated abstract textures
that fade in with her more realistic images, Her clips are prepared
long before the shows but her greatest strength as a VJ is her ability
to draw a rhythm from them; a rhythm that brings them to life when they
are wedded to the music.

Don Mescal

A resident of Montreal for 3 years now, Don takes
pleasure in scouring the record shops and garage sales in hopes of finding
rare old pearls. Today, Don Mescal animates Leçon de Son, a weekly
show on www.choq.fm, UQAM’s student radio. The show’s aim is the discovery
and exploration of various musical styles. Thus, each emission includes
a history lesson on a specific musical movement. Don Mescal also has
had the occasion to share his eclectic style in Montreal with evenings
at Bacci, Missy Bar and Macao.
