AN ARTIST LAUNCHPAD
DEFINED BY ITS REMARKABLE ARTISTIC DIRECTION
IN MEMORIAM OF JANE HELLER
Following the exceptional success of its 10th anniversary edition, the souk @ sat, co-produced by the SAT, will take place this year from November 27 to 30. The event carries on its singular mission : to put-forward quality, local Montreal design, and to offer a platform for the artists. With a variety of products catering to diverse tastes and uses, accessible to all budgets, the souk @ sat is the perfect place for finding holiday gifts or treating oneself while encouraging local artists : decorative objects, accessories, clothing, delicacies, toys, books, etc.
This 11th edition is dedicated to Montreal photographer Jane Heller, who passed away this year following a long battle with cancer. With her photographic series Monumentalove, she shaped part of Montrealers’ collective imagination. Heller, who had participated in the 9th souk @ sat, had a unique talent for capturing Montreal’s distinctive personality, at once nostalgic, inspired and familiar.
« Jane honoured Montreal. It is our turn now, this year, to honour her work, her talent, and the heritage she left behind. » – Azamit, Creative Director and souk @ sat founder.
« I hope you find these landmarks bigger than life both in their physicality and what they represent: unique symbols of our collective imagination. » – Jane Heller
* All profits from the sales of Jane Heller’s works will go towards the fund created for her 10 year old daughter, Béatrice.
*Under the law imposed by the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec, it is impossible for us to admit individuals aged 18 and under at this event. This law applies to our whole establishment, except for the terrasse during the summertime. To allow parents to shop without children, a timeslot on a Thursday (12 PM to 9 PM) has been added.

Jane Heller (1964-2014) Jane approaches her photography with a philosophy influenced by her background as a graphic designer. She gets to the essence of her subject through a process of elimination, using only the basic elements needed to convey her visual story.Combining classical formality, saturated tones and dignified restraint, her photography allows us into the lives of her subjects without being invasive or voyeuristic. Her carefully constructed tableaux are compelling for their formal strengths as well the sense of grace evoked within each subject and scene. |
