Following the success of the December sessions, the Umbra Mission returns to the SAT!

Relive the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 from a totally unique vantage point 34 km up in the stratosphere. A 360° immersive experience that will transport you to the gates of space to give you an astronaut’s view of this unforgettable celestial event.

On April 8, 2024, a small team of Quebec artists, scientists and videographers launched a module called “Dorothy” equipped with several 360° cameras into the stratosphere, and succeeded in capturing images of the Moon’s shadow crossing the Megantic region at over 4,000 kph.

The result is a dreamlike journey to the gates of space, combining popular science, philosophy and poetry for the whole family.

Breathtaking images of our planet seen from the sky, and the shadow that envelops us in a collective moment of wonder and introspection; a brief pause in our lives inviting us to meditate on our place in the universe and our relationship with our fragile habitat, planet Earth.

The Umbra Mission is a 12-minute 360° short film, which will be preceded by a 45-minute documentary in 16/9 retracing the adventure that led this team of enthusiasts to take up this crazy challenge, proving once again that with willpower and a little ingenuity, anything is possible.

After a warm welcome from the public at the Astro-Fest at the Montreal Planetarium and at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, the Projet Dorothy team is proud to present this stratospheric experience, specially adapted for the SAT dome.
