Eric Mattson presents TILT,
Part 2 :: 2 tributes – 1 Sunday of Exploratory Music
TILT is a sound broadcast event which presents the works that are essentially
musical, created by composers and artists from Quebec. For each event, the
thematic and historic focus is a prominent figure in sound creation (electroacoustic
and experimental music, sound art) in Quebec who is nowadays unrecognized or
has been forgotten.
The invited contemporary artists were chosen for
the quality of their performances and not for some similarity with their predecessors.
ANY RESEMBLANCE WOULD THEN BE PURELY ACCIDENTAL…
This evening is comprised of two distinct programs, one at 5:00 p.m. and the
other at 9:00 p.m.
TILT 03 :: 5:00 p.m.
A tribute to Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux
Concerts : Steve Bates, Diane Labrosse, Nelly-Ève Rajotte
—–
Having worked with many contemporary composers, both European and Canadian,
Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux (1938-1985) produced important works which
reveal the openness of the composer to each of the disciplines she contributed
to (voice, percussion, sound ecologyŠ). Her commitment towards the recognition
of electroacoustic music in Quebec drove the creation of specialized organizations
and the inclusion of this type of music in the curriculum of educational institutions.
This program is presented by Jean-François Denis, producer of the empreintes
DIGItales label, who will introduce us to the works of composer Micheline Coulombe
Saint-Marcoux. Some tracks taken from the Impulsion CD, on empreintes DIGItales
(catalog number: IMED0159, 2001) will be played.
TILT 04 :: 9:00 p.m.
A tribute to Hugh Le Caine
Concerts : Freida Abtan, Jean-François Laporte, Martin Tétreault
Special guest directly from Faroe Islands (DK) – G
o o d i e p a l
—–
A renowned scientist, physicist and specialist in radars and other detection
objects, Ontario engineer Hugh Le Caine (1914-1977) had a passion for sounds.
An exploratory dimension characterizes both the instruments he designed during
his spare time and his too-rare recordings. The four guests of this evening have
the same imagination and originality.
The evening is presented by Gayle Young, artist, biographer of Hugh Le Caine
and author of The Sackbut Blues: Hugh Le Caine, Pioneer in Electronic Music (published
by the National Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, ISBN 0-660-12006-2).
She is the director of the Toronto magazine Musicworks.
The entrance fee for each program is $8 (at the door only) or $12 for two
programs attended on the same night.
TILT events are projects that demand attentive
listening.
Please note that the programs begin on time and that absolute silence is mandatory.
Thank you for your understanding.
