The November MixSessions presents the theme Urban Landscapes – a night dedicated to the exploration of the city environment. Each set will be realized by audio and video artists.
SAT[MixSessions] is a meeting place for musicians/DJs and VJs [Live Visual Performances] and other artist from new media. These are invited to create around a theme selected by the MixSessions artists. The participantspresent Live in public at the SAT the result of their original digital creations where the high level of artistic knowledge is equal to their innovative and collective creative process.

ThisIsNotDesign, has been converted to the DJ dark side for some time now and will start the night with some choice selections of ambiant and noize tracks inspired by the city ambiance.
TIND (thisisnotdesign) is a video art group from Montreal active since 2001. It is formed of many VJs, video artists and photographers. TIND’ style is mainly based on the visual textures created by the errors found in video compression, interferences, bad video signals and video feedback. This texture accumulate itself in layers and then create a blurry space between the abstract and the figurative world. The visuals are always based on the rythms of the music and the music is also inspired by the visuals…

Athanore is a collective of conceptual art, winning price Tip of the hat 2004, working both in Quebec and in South America in the fields of video, photo, visual anthropology and vj. Athanore endeavours to explore and chart the human psyche and its hypnagogic imageries through a visual symbolic questioning the relationship between onirism and representation of the human body in a space and temporal reconstruction of the contemporary Man identity. Athanore has been participating as VJ at more than events in Montreal and South America.

Stefano Pando carries a classical and modern music background. Having studied music in Montreal and at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, USA, he holds a Bachelors degree in early music as a Lute performer. His classical training also included a wide variety of musical areas such as electro-acoustic, composition, musical arrangement, orchestration, piano, bass guitar, electric and classical guitar. Without forgetting, Stefano masters the Oud (african, middle eastern music), the setar, and the medieval-renaissance lute,Theorbo.

Pink Rubber Lady est une réalisatrice, une VJ et une ingénieure en design de systèmes basée à Montréal. Elle produit des courts métrages depuis 2002 et a reçu une bourse de l’ONF dans le câdre du Filmmaker Assitance Program (FAP). Ses films racontent des histoires personnelles qui combinent la réalité et l’imaginaire. Dans ces prestations vidéo, ses visuels incorporent des éléments narratifs et dépeignent des comportements humains. Pink Rubber Lady adore la musique et elle joue du piano et de la harpe

A composer, musician, sound designer, DJ and physicist, Jan Pienkowski writes and performs music reflecting his diverse background. From his Electroacoustic training and love of World Music comes a mixture of mechanical bleeps, acoustic spaces and ethnic themes. From his theatre (DIALOG) and dance (A.R.M. with choreographer Nikolas Dixon) experience comes a flair for the dramatic and a feel for intricate rhythms.
Jan’s performances span Canada, U.S., France and Hong Kong. His 2005 Shiva project with VJ Nokami has been shown at festivals in Thailand, Germany, UK, Sweden, Austria, Romania, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, USA and Canada, with India finally being added to the list of countries for 2006.
Jan has been also very active on the Montreal scene with shows at the Black & Blue Festival, Mutek, Montreal High Lights Festival, Festival du nouveau cinéma, Fantasia Festival, Fringe/ Pop Festival, Divers/Cité Festival, Tangente, Agora Festif, Exit, and regular appearances at the SAT, U Lounge, Saphir, Luba Lounge and Green Room. Jan’s Live and DJ mixes have landed him spots as featured artist on New York’s Proton Radio, Chicago’s Clubland Underground, Chicago’s 92.5 FM and Montreal’s CKUT 90.3 FM.
Jan is constantly expanding on what it means to be an electronic musician by collaborating with soloists (saxophone, violin, voice), visual artists, painters and dancers. He organises evenings and performs often at the SAT, with a range of shows including: the first Technopera (Turandot) with the singers from the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Monréal; Incidents improvisés, blending Schubert and Chopin with electronic structures; and regular [Mix_Sessions] combining the talents of musicians, dj’s and vj’s.
Sébastien :: (TIND) (PERFECTION PLASTIC)
Electronic music composer, sound designer, performer and DJ, Sebastien has participated in many cultural and well known projects and events surrounding the electronic music scene. COMA, Mutek, Elektra, Festival Sensation Mode, Festival du nouveau cinéma, Dérapage, Minute Moments, MixSessions and many other audio and audiovisual performances. Sebastien contributes to the music project Perfection Plastic as co-founder, composer and performer. He is also the audio composer and performer for TIND and DJs in many other nights and events.
Ambroise Vesac
Jean-Ambroise Vesac is an artiste of news méeias. He define his work as being hyperactuel and ecocybernetic. He developpe and program his very own softwares, interactive’s interfaces and robotic’s instruments. His way of doing things is MADE BY ME. That’s how a keep contact with himself and express his feeling thru technology.
Vesac is involve in the research and creation projet named La Fabrique (TOT) at la SAT. Where he explore the production of immersive cinema. He’s presenting at the galery SKOL Rencontre dans les bois, an immersive robotic’s installation where the visitor is invited for a trip in the forest. He’s a member of the improvised technologycal’s performances named Popcore. He’s teaching multimedia at le Centre d’études collégiales de Montmagny.
Gwen D-Jay
Après 10 ans à écumer la scène électro française, Gwen D. Jay débarque à Montréal et s’associe avec Mixsessions pour un évènement consacré aux voyages urbains. Membre du Mas i Mas sound system, collectif d’artistes parisien pionnier dans la diffusion du son drum’n’bass en France, il a également pris part, en tant que compositeur, à divers projets musicaux notamment sur les label Galletas Calientes et Random records. ToyKult
Known for his powerful visual style and ireverant musical experimentation TOYKULT brings a fusion of indie and electronic sensibilities to his work. 2007 saw the release of his debut album SOW LOCO a work that fuses late 80’s new wave with indie and electronic dance music. likened to a hybrid of Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Radiohead, Sigur Ros + Death in Vegas his music has been dubbed turtleneck techno rock by the press and previous projects have included work with Apple Computer, the BBC, artist and writer combo Dave McKean & Neil Gaimen and (Hex) allied to Ninja Tune, London.
Xnorophis
Xnorophis creates electonic dance music inspired by a wide range of styles and influences. They’re last album, The Tale of the Forgoten Key, is an East Indian inspired work, whereas their up and coming album, Tantric Tank, is a more indie punk and funky styled work. Xnorophis was voted Trip Hop artist of the year 2006 by the LA Music Awards, and the track Starlite is featured in the promo for the new NBC series Heroes.
