A brand new pilot program launched by the SAT in its café, La Station is your digital arts meet-up to stimulate your curiosity and creativity, meet creatives from your community, and learn all kinds of new things in an unconventional way to develop your creative career. Think outside the box, experiment, share, discover and connect with activities customized for your busy life.

What is it?

Different formats of short and spontaneous sessions, in a warm atmosphere of sharing, to expand your projects, pique your curiosity, create new collaborations and facilitate the development of your career. All for free!

The creative community is extremely rich in Montreal, and what enriches La Station is you. Your creativity, curiosity, and talents are extremely fruitful and deserve a platform — a platform to share, exchange, and support one another as a community, to reach new heights. La Station is the are the journey and the destination.

What will you discover and create today?

La Station is supported by the City of Montreal, and will launch on October 15, 2019.

How to take part in meet-ups at La Station?

1 Sign up for the activity ahead of time...
1 ...or not! Activities can be followed spontaneously!
1 Arrive at Café SAT.
1 You will be welcomed by a group facilitator who will create a pleasant, inspiring and friendly atmosphere.
1 You will quickly get to know the other people in the group through an icebreaker at the beginning of the activity — future collaborations are ready to flourish!
1 Actively participate by working on a personal project or sharing your knowledge.


Studio Libre

Do you have a personal project or challenge that you want to dedicate yourself to? Do you want to meet other creators in your field or are you curious to receive feedback from your community throughout the creative process? Studio Libre is a free creative session that gives you the chance to meet people with common interests, in a friendly environment, while making progress on a personal project! It’s your weekly meet-up to create and exchange in a warm, open and inspiring atmosphere. A bit like a creative club in your medium, it’s the meeting point between your creative projects and your community.

Music and Sound Art

Tuesday, January 14, January 28, February 11, February 25, March 10 and March 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Do you compose, remix, sample, and create sound experiences? If your thing is music, sound, audio production, podcasts, sound creation, or anything related to sound, the Music and Sound Art Studio Libre is for you.

Digital Visuals

Tuesday January 21, February 4, February 18, March 3, March 17, March 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Does image, still or moving, remixed or captured, fascinate you? Do you like to distort visuals, program them, animate them, illustrate them, manipulate them to experiment with the limits of the frame and go beyond them? Creators of generative visuals, mapping, VJing, animation, 3D, illustration, and other digital visual arts come together to create at the Digital Visuals Studio Libre.

Every 2nd Saturday of the month, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

You never stop having ideas and imagining new avenues. Come and whet your curiosity, stimulate your creativity and inspire yourself with these exciting sessions for sharing knowledge and ideas! The concept: prepare 3 to 5 minutes of a nugget of information you want to share, and then split into pairs to share in a rapid format. In the end, we leave with lots of new ideas to look into! It's like speed dating, but for stimulating creativity and intellect!

Tips & Tricks to Deal with the Double Life of an Artist

February 8, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Double life? No, we're not talking about Picasso 007, but rather about all the challenges that inevitably come along with the life of an artist. A combination of work and artistic practice, work-art-family balance, financial puzzles, time management, self-promotion...The good news is that with artistic creativity, we often find ingenious solutions! Come share your tricks with others, and let’s help each other out in our daily lives!

How AI technology changes the artist’s role?

Artificial intelligence is on everyone's lips and is beginning to appear in artistic works. New research-creation residencies are appearing, and one wonders about the place of art in AI, and vice versa. Can the intelligence of a computer have enough capacity to deviate from its rules to really invent? What role can AI (even) play as a creative tool, plain and simple? Come share your thoughts and discuss the link between art and AI!

Do you have a digital arts project or learning challenge that you would like to solve, either from a technical or artistic point of view? Every last Saturday of the month, come ask an expert your questions and chat with other creators using the same techniques to share your knowledge and find solutions.

VR headset immersion and augmented reality

January 25, 2020, 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Come solve your challenges related to 360° immersion, interactive or mobile VR headsets, and mobile augmented reality. Guillaume Perreault Roy will be available to respond your questions - he's a virtual reality and augmented reality designer who uses Unity & Unreal.

About the expert: Guillaume Perreault Roy

Guillaume Perreault Roy is a digital artist passionate about perceptual technologies. As a video game designer, his approach to interactive mediums and virtual worlds combines multiple orientations. As an immersion researcher, he specializes in ambulatory VR & interactive design. He’s devoted the past few years to research and development in virtual reality and augmented reality.

Audio Post-production

February 22, 2020, 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Come solve your issues in mixing, production, mastering, or any other aspect of audio post-production. Jan Pienkowski will be available to answer your questions - he is an expert on musical creation, traditionnal and digital DJing, mastering and sound design.

About the expert : Jan Pienkowski

Jan Pienkowski is an expert in music creation (traditional instruments, real or VST synthesizers, controllers, computer-based software - Ableton Live, Reason, Audition), traditional and digital DJing (sampling and audio cutting techniques), sound design (field recording, studio recordings, sound creation and special effects), audio restoration and patches, voice processing, mixing and final mastering. His other areas of expertise related to sound creation are music creation, mixing and mastering for music outside of the film industry, video game audio and music, music for dance, acoustics and audio physics, audio installations, and live performance.

Digital Technology in Performing Arts

Are you an artist in performing arts (theatre, dance, circus, performance, etc…) who wishes to integrate digital art in your projects, but doesn’t know where to start to create all that you imagine? Join this troubleshooting session that will help you take your first steps and discover the techniques and tools you need! Thomas Payette will be available to answer your questions - he's an expert in performing arts video design, video integration, creative direction, art direction, performer interactivity, and much more.

About the expert: Thomas Payette

Thomas Payette is a graduate from the National Theatre School of Canada's production program. After working around the world in the performing arts with companies like Ex Machina, Dragone and VYV, he co-founded HUB Studio in 2015, a creation studio that creates, stages and produces multimedia experiences. Through the use of creative technology, HUB's multidisciplinary team seeks to engage audiences in innovative artistic experiences that carry meaning, beauty and emotion. Thomas works there as a designer, creative director and director of development.
