Biography
Originally from Switzerland, Axel Morgenthaler is renowned as one of
Quebec’s most innovative visual artists, appreciated for his talent as
a set and lighting designer and multimedia artist. After working in Europe,
he turned to dance, theatre and, recently, architecture in order to explore
new theatrical, visual and architectural ideas founded on light as raw material,
together with film, video and multimedia. Over the past 20 years, Axel Morgenthaler
has created more than 80 stage sets and lighting designs for choreographers
such as Edouard Lock, Ginette Laurin, Marie Chouinard, José Navas and
Jocelyn Montpetit. In 2001, he won the prestigious Bessie Award (New York Dance
and Performance Award) for the lighting and sets he created for O Vertigo Danse’s
Luna.
