Japan Media Arts Festival is receiving project submissions for the 14th edition of its digital arts contest. Send your projects and applications before September 24th 2010.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs has been organizing the Japan Media Arts Festival annually since 1997 with the aim of promoting the creation and development of media arts. The Japan Media Arts Festival awards prizes for outstanding creative works in the fields of art, entertainment, animation and manga as well as providing opportunities to introduce these works, specifically through the prizes announcements, the awards ceremony, and the exhibition of award-winning works.

Divisions

  • Art Division : Art works using new media and digital technologies :
    Interactive Art / Installation / Movie / Digital Photograph / Still Image / Website

  • Entertainment Division : Entertainment works using new media and digital technologies : Game / Play Equipment / Movie (VFX, CM, MV, etc.) / Character / Website

  • Animation Division : Feature Length Animation : TV Animation / Original Video Animation (OVA) / Short Animation

  • Manga Division : Story Manga / Comic Strip Manga / Non-commercial Manga / Digital Manga

Prizes

  • Grand Prize : Certificate (Prize of the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister), Trophy, Extra Prize of 600,000 yen

  • Excellence Prize : Certificate (Prize of the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister), Trophy, Extra Prize of 300,000 yen

  • Encouragement Prize : Certificate (Prize of the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister), Trophy, Extra Prize of 150,000 yen

Announcement : December 2010
Awards Ceremony : February 1st 2011
Exhibition of Award-Winning Works : February 2nd 2011 to February 13th 2011 at The National Art Center, Tokyo

Eligibility

  • Your work must have been produced or released between 26 September 2009 and 24 September 2010. Works that have been updated during this period are also eligible.

  • Regarding the Manga Division, works currently being serialized in magazines are acceptable.

  • Works created by professionals and amateurs, and commercial and non-commercial works can be entered without distinction.

  • Themes, contents and techniques are free in all divisions.

  • Works that have been entered, or have won prizes in other contests may also be entered.

  • There is no restriction on the number of works that can be applied. However, a work should not be entered in more than one division.
