Metalab, the SAT’s R&D department, announces a major partnership with Centech, as part of its research programs for spontaneous and adaptive collective immersion (ICSA) and for acoustic simulation in virtual or augmented reality (SAV+R).

Centech’s mission is to propel deeptech companies to success. The organization offers workspaces in its own offices, the former Montreal Planetarium. The former projection dome has been adapted to host workshops, meetings and other networking events. However, the unusual layout of the space makes it difficult to use, especially due to the acoustics.

Partnership Objectives:

  • To advance the calibration of spontaneous immersive devices (notably via the installation of technology developed by the SAT: Audiodice & Mirador)

  • To make progress with methods and tools related to spatial acoustics

  • To establish a set of specific proposals to transform the Centech dome into an adapted immersive space

  • To establish relevant use cases for the Centech dome

The ICSA and SAV+R research programs are financially supported by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation.

“By integrating technological innovations achieved through research with business incubators, we help build a more stimulating environment for the growth of our start-ups. This partnership between the SAT’s Metalab and Centech is an excellent example of the importance of building bridges between research and entrepreneurship to shine even more light on Québec expertise and ingenuity” says Marie-Chantal Chassé, Member for Châteauguay and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economy and Innovation (Innovation and Entrepreneurship

About the SAT’s Metalab

Founded in 2002, Metalab is the research and development lab of the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT). Metalab’s double mission is to stimulate the emergence of innovative immersive experiences and to make their creation accessible to immersion artists and creators through an ecosystem of open-source software.
