Discover PIXINESS, the new architectural lighting project designed by Axel Morgenthaler that will showcase our ground floor facade.
As part of the Quartier des Spectacles Lighting Plan and in order to benefit from this period of renovation and expansion, we are currently working to bring a new architectural lighting project to fruition. The result of this effort is PIXINESS, an original visual hallmark that will showcase our ground floor facade on Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
PIXINESS, an interactive luminous work designed by Axel Morgenthaler, is a dynamic system of technological shutters measuring 3.6 meters high and 18 meters wide. The installation will be made up of twelve motorized prisms displaying a mirrored surface on one side and a luminous interface of giant, dome-shaped pixels on the other. This 960-pixel matrix will create a luminescent, animated, and interactive installation that will offer visitors a unique sensory experience and incite participation from both SAT patrons and passer-by’s.
The rotational aspect of this artistic work will create a dynamic link between the interior and exterior of the new building. When the shutters close, they will expose their mirrored surface and allow viewers to observe the reflection of urban life on the facade. When the shutters open, the building will capture ambient light and generate a play of light and shadow through a filter of pre-programmed LED rhythms.
In production since the beginning of Summer 2010, PIXINESS will be unveiled this January 17th! Until then, you can follow the creation of PIXINESS by visiting the project’s Facebook page.
