Raydale Dower: Études de spatialisation sonore

Raydale Doweris an artist and musician whose practice explores the parameters of sculptural form and sonic composition, often through a combination of elements including installation, object, gesture and performance.

For this SAT event Raydale will present Studies in Spatial Sound, consisting of short experimental sound compositions developed during his recent PRIM residency. These studies could be considered sonic sketches and explore sculptural sound, duration and composition for speaker arrangements.

Central to this work is an ongoing interest and research into the concept of sound as a three dimensional medium and the manipulation of time – a central parameter of the medium – to explore the ‘objet sonore’ as defined by Pierre Schaeffer. The sound recordings will be projected through the speaker array within the SAT dome.

This work in progress has been developed during Dower’s three-month CALQ supported residency at PRIM awarded in partnership with the CCA (Centre for Contemporary Art), Glasgow. This presentation has been made possible with additional support from SAT.
