As part of Lafayette’s yearlong celebration of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday,environmental artist Brandon Ballengée’s From Scales to Feathers: The Evanescent Presence of Sculpted Wings will run through Dec. 12 in the Williams Center Art Gallery.

The exhibit is one of many events this year marking Darwin’s birthday and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his work, On the Origin of Species.

  • Illustrated lecture: 3:00 p.m, The Pigeon Chronicles. Artist Patty Harris, whose recent work involved attempts to place digital cameras on homing pigeons, will discuss her experiences with the birds and their wranglers.
  • Gallery Talk: 3:30 p.m., Williams Center Gallery, Artist Brandon Ballengée will talk about the works in the exhibition.
  • Reception: 4–6 p.m.
  • Reading: 4–5:30 p.m., Williams Center Gallery
