True to tradition, the SAT has some electrifying treats in store for St. Valentine’s Day

Montreal, February 6th, 2008 -- On this St. Valentine’s Day, February 14th, lovers of the avant-garde will be coming down to the SAT. Artists, journalists, old friends and newcomers are all invited to watch as we unveil the winter-spring program schedule of the Society for Arts and Technology. From 5 pm onwards, you can meet and mingle with the people who are the lifeblood of this transdisciplinary centre for research and creation in the digital arts. The new season features no less than sixty different events, including concerts, festivals, exhibitions, conferences and educational workshops, which will keep things rolling at a pace that’s fast enough to match the constant mutations now underway in the field. Be sure not to miss the party as the following artists and cultural activists give you a preview of the polymorphic styles, talents and ideas coming your way in the next few months.

Monique Savoie (founder and chief executive officer of the SAT), René Barsalo (director of strategy and partnerships), Richard Langevin (director of SAT[TransForm], the centre’s educational programme in digital art), and Joseph Lefèvre (director of MixSessions and the residency program) will introduce Brendon Béllengée, Pascal Boucher and Manon Oligny, artists whom we are proud to support in bringing innovative and exciting projects to fruition. Véronique Maléfant, director of Interface[s] Montreal: Digital Meets Business, a successful conference series about innovations in art and digital technology. Claudio Rivera-Seguel, curator of Digital Chile_08, an exhibition which gives us a fantastic view into the Chilean avant-garde art scene, presented in association with the Montreal High Lights Festival. Mark Dylan, NEON Productions. Charmaine Leblanc – Director of the show Quarantaine, a true event of interdisciplinarity produced by Danse-Cité, Marc-André Plasse (Pecha Kucha), Eric Mattson from the exhibition Le son a des jambes and Claire Roberge will herald the arrival in Montreal of Gilberto Gil the legendary musician and Brazil’s Minister of Culture who honour us for his visit at the SAT for a public discussion about right and digital culture.

To round off the evening, Vincent Lemieux from the 2008 MUTEK Festival, STERN from the TASTE IV event and Jan Pienkowsky from the MixSessions collective are concocting an especially tasty session, with that extra kick to be supplied by the video projections of VJ Sindre from Moment Factory.
