On
Saturday April 23rd, LIPSTICK MUSIC presents its first event
at the SAT.
BLOW
UP! is a softcore, all-night-music-mashup-shindig brought to you by
LIPSTICK MUSIC with a mix of bassline driven bumpsy electro-house and rock infused
techno. Featured DJs Sean Kosa, Jacob Asher,
Nivoc, Pascal B. and Eddy Jasmin
will be maintaining and overseeing the audiovibe, while Studio 300
distorts the visual environment.
Sean Kosa
Once he rocked a Fender Stratocaster. Now, Sean Kosa rocks dance floors. Since
the day he walked into a pawnshop and purchased his first sampler and synthesizer,
this former souvlaki jockey by way of Ontario has established himself among
Montreal’s foremost selectors and producers.
Sean’s vocal-heavy,
post punk approach to dance music was an instant success. His intuitive pop
structure and DJ friendly vision of music is equal parts madness and mischief,
perfect for setting the party on fire or seducing sexy robots. For Sean, Lipstick
Music is the ideal vehicle for a style that combines the best elements of pop
and electro, “without sounding like the Vengaboys”.
Jacob Asher
Jacob Asher
has been a DJ in and around Montreal since the early nineties. Owner and operator
of DNA Records since 2001, he has attempted to put his stamp on the musical direction of the
city. As a DJ, he is fascinated by that fine line between genres, melting house,
electro, acid, bootlegs and whatever else strikes his musical vision. The same
is evident in his production work as half of The Marlon Jacksons.
His
interest is, and always has been, in music that can be enjoyed in the car, on
the dancefloor, or walking around thecity through your headphones. With that
in mind, he hopes to help make Lipstick, his store and DJ sets something for
everyone.
Nivoc
Veteran DJ,
label manager for Ascend Music and now Lipstick Music, Jean-Michel aka DJ Nivoc
is an influential member of Montreal’s highly creative electronic music
scene. Having emigrated from Europe to Canada in 1994, he set up his labels
to push local artists on the global market, and has helped produced many successful
Montreal-based techno 12″ releases. During his two year residency at the
infamous Sona club, he’s deejayed alongside international DJs such as
Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, and local star Tiga just to name a few.
He
travels regularly between Frankfurt, Rome, and Barcelona when he’s not
working on some new music-related project with either Pascal B. or Mateo Murphy.
Inspired by the many subtle and charismatic aspects of eletronic music, he’s
a proficient music cross-pollinator. Playing a hypnotic blend of uplifting and
driving techno, his DJ sets are best described as journeys through sophisticated
soniclandscapes.
Pascal B.
Pascal B. likes playing an eclectic mix of minimal to techno and kicking electro
& rock infused house music. His DJ sets reflect strong ties to the past
and a keen sense for novelty. Having begun his DJ career in 2001, Pascal quickly
infiltrates the Montreal underground scene with his clever sets alongside DJs
such as Ricardo Villalobos, Sammy Dee and Jeff Samuel and his involvements in
managing numerous successful private parties. He’s earned a well deserved
residency at Circus where he performs alongside Nivoc who also happens to be
his label partner for Lipstick Music, an outlet for fiercely fun, pumping and
forward-thinking dance music.
Eddy
Jasmin
Once a familiar
face at a local record store, Eddy Jasmin is now one of the most prolific and
respected club DJs in Montreal. For 17 years he has put his music above all else, mastering the main
room sound that has come to revitalize the city’s after-hours scene.
The
Haitian sensation has five residencies under his belt and shows no signs of
slowing down any time soon. These days, however, his signature style of balls-to-the-wall
house and progressive has taken on a vital dimension: electro. Eddy’s
friendship with Lipstick Music founder Nivoc cemented his desire to explore
this new direction. Along with production partner and technician extraordinaire
Julien T, Eddy has developed a tribal and techno-flavoured style of electro
that is both accessible and underground. His creativity in the studio is matched
only by his energy behind the decks – it’s a potent combination
that breaks down barriers, opening hearts and minds to the myriad influences
that make Eddy Jasmin a late night saviour.
