From Wednesday
October 19th to Saturday October 22nd, MEG Montreal will celebrate its seventh
year anniversary. More artists, more venues, and an eclectic schedule (rock,
hip-hop, electronic) will mark this brand new edition. Founded in 1999 by Jacques
Primeau alongside Mustapha Terki, co-founder and director of the event, it has
grown into a festival with even greater musical diversity due to the help of
Alexandre Lemieux and Alexandre Auché. Over the years, the MEG has become
a highly anticipated event during Quebec’s cultural Fall calendar. In
addition, along with the showcases and professional workshops, it is a place
of exchange within the music industry.
MEG Montreal presents
an overview of the current musical trends and provides a hub for cutting edge
musical styles (rock, hip-hop, electronic) ; it not only provides a link between
North America and Europe, but it also injects an incredible vitality into Montreal.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19:
JACKSON
(FRA)
TES (USA)
STEVE BEAUPRÉ (CAN)
Jackson
No relation to Michael or Joe, Jackson Fourgeaud is a young Parisian producer
who in 1999 released the 45 of “My Kind of Chicago” on the Barclay
label. Following the success of “UtopiA”, Jackson remixed M83 in 2003
before releasing “Smash”, the long awaited full-length on Warp Records.
Jackson’s sound combines the French touch of Daft Punk with Morricone
and Perrey and a dash of Amon Tobin. Jackson & His Computer Band is an absolute
must see for 2005.

Tes
Spotted during the late ‘90s alongside Vast Aire during the Holograph
Travelerz project, Tes is a multidisciplinarian (MC, beatboxer, and producer)
who stems from the Brooklyn Hip-Hop scene. After the “Take home Tes”
EP, and an appearance on “The Bedford Files” compilation, Tes (Terrence
Tessora) released “X2” in 2003, which was put out by Lex. Navigating
through glacial atmospherics similar to that of El P, Cannibal Ox, and Antipop
Consortium, this New Yorker equally divulges his eclectic influences ranging
from Michael Jackson to Notorious Big by way of Wu-Tang and Nirvana.

Steve Beaupré
Based out of Montreal,
Stephen Beaupré has been involved in the electronic music scene for more
than a decade. Cutting his teeth as anadolescent promoter for electronic music
events in Ottawa, Stephen became quickly seduced by the more substantial rhythms
and textures of (specifically) house and techno that was striving to be deeper,
funkier and more engaging. He began “DJing” at 18, always with a mind
for the dance floor, always trying to stay close to the crowd. With a love for
gritty punchy music, at once technological and organic, Stephen skilfully mixes
dance floor rocking tracks always trying to create anatmosphere of humour, excitement
and malaise.
