From Wednesday
October 19th to Saturday October 22nd, MEG Montreal will celebrate its seventh
year anniversary. More artists, more venues, and an eclectic schedule (rock,
hip-hop, electronic) will mark this brand new edition. Founded in 1999 by Jacques
Primeau alongside Mustapha Terki, co-founder and director of the event, it has
grown into a festival with even greater musical diversity due to the help of
Alexandre Lemieux and Alexandre Auché. Over the years, the MEG has become
a highly anticipated event during Quebec’s cultural Fall calendar. In
addition, along with the showcases and professional workshops, it is a place
of exchange within the music industry.
MEG Montreal presents
an overview of the current musical trends and provides a hub for cutting edge
musical styles (rock, hip-hop, electronic) ; it not only provides a link between
North America and Europe, but it also injects an incredible vitality into Montreal.

EVENING
Superpitcher
Better known under the name of Superpitcher, Aksel Schaufler is a young German
electronic music producer. After two maxi-singles and a series of remixes for
Dntel, Carsten Jost, Contriva, and Phantom/Ghost, he released in 2004 “Here
Comes Love”. It is an album that is light and delicately atmospheric blending
bits of techno and pop melodies which are at times sad and romantic. This Cologne
native signed with Kompakt has established a bridge between traditional minimalism
with a Detroit aesthetic and the experimentalism of Neu and Can.

Ada
After three maxi-singles on Areal Records along with being featured on various
compilations (Areal, Cocoon…), Michaela Dippl (a.k.a Ada) released “Blondie”,
a full-length album put out in 2004. Based in Cologne, she is both a producer
and singer who delivers a simplistically personal and melodic sound. Influenced
by Pop, Rock, and minimalism, Ada collaborates equally with Michael Schwanen
(Metope) and Mathias Klein (Konfekt).

Metope
Metope is an architectural Greek term which refers to a quadrangular plate made
from ceramic or stone that separates two triglyphs on a Doric frieze. It might
be decorated with paint or sculpted. The term can also be used in ceramics.
In Cologne, Metope is the moniker for Michael Schwanen. Since 2001, this new
kid on the block for Areal Records has been responsible for half a dozen maxis,
and simultaneously been involved in projects like Undo/Redo and Lava Lounge.
Metope blends his minimalist roots with influences from deep house.

Yuksek
The man behind Yuksek is P.A. Busson, musician and DJ. From the ages of 17 to
24 he was at the heart of the Databass collective under the name of Yumade,
and traveled to Japan, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. Since then, he has renamed
himself Yuksek and has remixed Zimpala and The Film, released several maxi-singles
under Hypnotic Music, and was part of an electro-pop project called Klanguage.
His world is a hybrid of Hip-Hop rhythms and Techno with sounds that are both
precise and direct. It’s definitely smart for the dancefloor.

Jesse Somfay
Born in Kitchener, Ontario in 1986, this young prodigy already has under his
belt two maxis put out on the German label Traum, one full length release, and
a multitude of mp3s. It was in the mid 1990s that Jesse Somfay discovered electronic
music over the radio waves and brought him to producing his own music. His experimental
and romantic Techno has already gained respect from artists such as Michael
Mayer and Akufen.
