Inspired by the iconic T-Dances at the Sky Pub in the 1990s, DAD BOD is a queer dance party and community event held early in the evening from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DJs Dr. Love & Laura Ingalls dig deep into their endless vinyl collection, spinning classic and modern house and Italo disco, as dazzling visuals by Tina Sprinkles light up the room. Hosted by General Amazingness & Fuzzy Minnelli—come dance, sweat, and bask in the warmth.
What is a tea dance?
Originating in New York in the 1950s and ’60s, tea dances were Sunday afternoon parties for the gay community. Due to laws prohibiting bars from serving alcohol to known gay individuals and frequent police raids, gay men began organizing tea dances outside the city, particularly on Fire Island. Serving tea instead of alcohol made these gatherings more acceptable, and the afternoon timing allowed attendees to return home early.
Dr Love has been around the block a few times. He was djing at SKY & UNiTY in the late 90’s, manager at Inbeat record store in the 00’s, djing at Royal Phoenix in the 2010’s to name a few… When Laura Ingalls & Tina Sprinkles met Dr Love they knew this was meant to be. They hit it off immediately, the rest is herstory. They are back for a new edition of DAD BOD T-Dance at the SAT.
