Residency Programs

The Art Creation Program at the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] is open to artists and scientists interested in issues related to exploratory research in the fields of digital media and ground-breaking artistic creation.

The chosen creative projects will be directly linked with the SAT’s immersion, interaction and networking research program; they’ll build on not only the technologies and processes developed at the SAT, but also on the uses enabled by these technologies and processes. The creative projects will also stimulate and enrich the SAT’s programming and the wider offering in digital art.

The SAT’s research-creation approach is transdisciplinary and transprofessional: it encourages all disciplines, know-hows, and abilities, to contribute to the evolution of creative processes leading to strong and original artworks. Each project is unique and must contribute to the emergence of exemplary forms of digital culture and develop the economy that will enable the growth of a strong and structured creative class that can shine internationally. Lastly, the SAT’s Art Creation Program encourages the creators-in-residence to get in touch and be attuned with our time’s major issues and challenges.

Immersive Films

Whether short or medium-length films, immersive films in the dome offer a wide field of exploration for cinematographic language in an immersive context. Live action shooting, animation, 3D modeling, audio-reactivity, algorithmic generation, data visualization and sonification are all possible experimental approaches that, combined with traditional artistic disciplines, open pathways to new narrative possibilities.

Immersive Performances

Technologies, like the performing arts, are constantly evolving. Creation in an immersive environment offers unparalleled potential to explore new languages around interactivity and performance and thus extend the field of public perception in real time. As part of our residencies, we welcome projects that explore these possibilities from a performative and multimodal perspective, whether under a dome, or through a multi-screen and multi-speaker device.

Hybrid Performances

The immersive hybridization between physical and virtual spaces is similar to the very broad spectrum of “extended realities” (XR). Through these residencies, we offer artists the framework and the tools to explore this hybridization in a context of artistic performance and collective immersion.

Ephemeral Immersive Spaces

This residency aims to support projects whose goal is to transform any space into an immersive space. Through this program, we invite artists to explore, take charge of and contribute to our free software ecosystem through the creation of prototypes that they can then integrate into their own research-creation process.
