What workshops do we offer?

Audio production

This workshop will introduce participants to electronic music creation using Ableton Live software and controllers. By the end of the session, participants will have learned how to compose, mix, and record a musical sequence, while gaining a deeper understanding of the concepts and techniques involved in sound mixing.

Stop motion animation

In this introductory workshop, your group will create stop-motion animations using drawings and objects, with the help of animation tools and softwares. The workshop also offers the opportunity to explore various cinematic techniques, such as shot composition, staging, lighting, and set design.

VJing (Live Visual Mixing)

Participants will explore the fundamental techniques of VJing using the Resolume software and MIDI controllers. By the end of this workshop, they will know how to select video clips, synchronize music, and create real-time visual effects.

3D Modeling

Discover the endless artistic possibilities available through 3D creation! Participants will learn to design 3D images, explore shapes, and animate them. They will be introduced to the basics of animation, 3D modeling, and the Blender software, which they will use to create their own 3D environments.

Interactive Drawings

Unleash your creativity and imagination by creating animated and interactive drawings! Using the Tagtool app, participants will explore drawing, painting, and animation techniques, which will then be projected onto walls as interactive artworks.

Electronic Art with Makey Makey

This workshop explores electronics and interactivity as a form of artistic expression, while giving participants the opportunity to discover 'maker' culture. The participants will create an interactive artwork using an electronic circuit, design electromechanical prototypes, and use sensors as well as light and sound devices.

Programming and Electronics with Arduino

This creative workshop will introduce your group to the Arduino microcontroller and programming. Participants will be introduced to programming, they will design a light sequence, learn about electronic components and create a prototyping circuit.

Collaborative Artwork with Raspberry Pi

Explore the artistic possibilities offered by the Raspberry Pi microcomputer. In this workshop, participants will not only discover Raspberry Pi, but also familiarize themselves with networking concepts, learn programming languages such as Python and Processing, and collaborate on the creation of a collective artwork.

Stop motion animation

Nicolas Bertrand

Montréal based illustrator and animator, Nicolas holds a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and is establishing his presence in the visual arts field. Alongside animation, his practice explores painting, photography, music, and dance. Known for his joyful, colorful, and psychedelic visual style, he is constantly seeking new ways to use his skills to create engaging and emotionally resonant experiences. Since 2018, he has been leading educational stop motion animation activities for youth aged 9 to 17 at the SAT.
Mathieu Monteillet au DJ board

Audio production

Mathieu Monteillet

Recognized by the Canada Council for the Arts as an electronic music composer and DJ, Mathieu is a computer-assisted music (CAM) instructor and professional artist. Under his artist name Mat Moebius, he began composing and DJing in 2000, and has been exploring and composing various musical styles ever since. He has been a full-time instructor for several years, and loves to share his passion through his courses and workshops. You can also hear Mat perform at various events in Quebec and abroad, or simply on his artist page.

VJing

Mathieu Thoer

Mathieu Thoer is a multidisciplinary artist who explores digital art and technology, often in the form of immersive and interactive experiences. With his colorful, fantastical, and futuristic universe, he shares his hopeful and playful vision, while also reflecting on the realities of our future. In 2007, he founded Pinkcloud Crew, a multidisciplinary collective based in Montreal.

Stop motion animation and Interactive Drawing

Charlie Poirier-Bouthillette

Charlie is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the intersections of photography, video, drawing, and animation. Working primarily within the cultural sector, she has also been actively involved in education with youth of all ages for over ten years. She values knowledge sharing through experimentation and creative freedom, fostering environments where curiosity, play, and exploration are central to the learning process.

Workshops vary in length and are offered in two formats, led by one or two artist-instructors.

The format with two artist-instructors is especially popular, as it allows students to discover the approaches and tools of two different artistic disciplines.

Workshop content can also be adapted to align with your specific learning objectives.

For all options:

  • Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Language: French or English
  • Number of participants per visit: 20 to 25 participants per workshop, 40 to 50 participants total when two workshops run simultaneously, up to 120 participants for screenings.

Availability of the Satosphere

Discover the Satosphere!

  • For groups wishing to experience a screening in the Satosphere (SAT’s immersive dome), screenings are available between 9:00-10:00, 12:00-13:00, or 15:30-17:00.
  • It is also possible to schedule a visit at the end of the day and receive a 20% discount for evening performances and screenings starting at 19:00.

Satosphere Warning:

Please be aware that the film presented in the Satosphère may contain sequences with motion effects or flashing lights. We encourage spectators who are sensitive to or uncomfortable with these effects to briefly close their eyes or exit the dome if needed.
