As a space for research, exchange, creation and presentation, the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) is pleased to announce this call for residency projects for 2023~24.

This call is addressed to artists and artist collectives in media arts, all disciplines included, whose work is in line with our research perspectives, and aims to select the projects that will be hosted in residence by our teams as of 2023.

 

Guiding principles

SAT wishes to contribute to an inclusive and diverse cultural scene. It encourages women, trans and non-binary people, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities, members of the Indigenous communities, racialized people, visible and/or ethnic minorities, as well as people with disabilities to submit their proposals.

The SAT wishes to encourages projects using open source software. SAT believes that open source software promotes the democratization and renewal of digital practices by allowing anyone who wants to use the software to take part in its development.

Eligibility criteria

Innovation : The creative project must demonstrate artistic or technological progress in the field of immersive experience and distinguish itself through its approach to the exploration it offers.

Authenticity : The work produced must be original and exempt of clips, samples, or content that is copyrighted or taken from previous work from the artist or other people.

Autonomy : The artists must demonstrate autonomy in the principal technical and creative aspects of the project.

What the SAT can offer

The SAT will specify its offer in terms of support in goods and services and its co-production contribution after a budgetary evaluation of projects that have generated interest during one or several production meetings with the immersion team.

  • Save for exceptions and in accordance with a recommendation from the artistic committee, the SAT does not cover travel or per diem costs for selected artists and their collaborators;
  • Production costs must be provided in a detailed budget specifying what the artist expects from the SAT and what they plan to invest in their project;
  • The SAT may write a letter of intent to facilitate the search for funding or grants;
  • The SAT offers the support of its communication department for the broadcasting audiovisual archiving and communications related to the project across its networks and on its website;
  • A creation agreement specifying the production and distribution methods for each selected creation is drafted in collaboration with the artist.

What the SAT cannot offer

  • We cannot finance more than 70% of the project budget, contribution in material, content, etc. included
  • We cannot offer accommodation
  • We cannot provide full-time support. We expect applications from people who are sufficiently autonomous to be able to carry out their work. However, our staff are generally willing to help where possible
  • It is not always possible to accommodate more than one person, but it depends on the nature of the project and the collaboration
  • Residency need not result in production and does not guarantee production or programming in SAT events

What must be included in the application?

  • A production schedule including the different stages (design, research and creation, production)*
  • A budget detailed to the best of your abilities, which must present each step of the project and the resources necessary for its creation**
  • The SAT will evaluate your production plan and creative budget
  • Only artists with selected projects will be contacted
