JEU(X) DE LUMIÈRES
As part of its 30th anniversary, the SAT and artist Marie LeBlanc Flanagan present an immersive, collaborative installation that transforms Place de la Paix into an interactive playground.
Conceived as a shared experience, beams of light animate the concrete paving stones, inviting the public to play. The installation evolves in response to participants’ movements and interactions through a motion-tracking system developed at the SAT.
The installation was developed through a co-creation approach with people in vulnerable situations and neighbourhood partners, each of whom contributed their complementary expertise. Together, they sought to ground Jeu(x) de lumières in the reality of Place de la Paix and to make this installation a space for participation, recognition, and meaningful encounters among the neighbourhood’s diverse communities and stakeholders.
By bringing digital art into the public realm and collaborating with the local community, the installation highlights the importance of creating opportunities for connection in the heart of Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles.
