Creating and experiencing electronic 3D Audiovisual artworks in space
Course available in winter 2009.
In this discussion we use the term “Volumetric Arts” to refer to these kind of art forms, real or virtual, because they are:
1) Works whose audiovisual content occupies regions of 3D space, real and/or virtual.
2) Works which can be encountered, as with sculpture, from many different spatial points of view.
The discussion, presented from an artist’s point of view, will provide an introduction to volumetric arts, and will focus on art forms with electronic audiovisual content. We will focus on new emergent forms where 3D computer modeling and simulation are used in the rendering of live performance, listening, installation/gallery and other arts applications.
In particular, we will examine concepts, methods and approaches used in the creation and experience of these art forms (OpenGL, AudioScape (www.audioscape.org ), OpenScenGraph, Blender ).
Example volumetric audiovisual works with electronic content will be presented and discussed.
